Headteacher Mr Head
Ever since I was young, I have always wanted to be a teacher. I can still remember visiting schools during the holidays with my mum, who was a Teaching Assistant at the time, helping to refresh display boards and prepare classrooms for the new school year. Those early experiences gave me a real insight into school life and helped to shape my ambition to become a teacher myself.
I grew up in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, before moving to Suffolk, where I met my wife. We now have an amazing family: two young girls and a very fluffy golden retriever called Scooby!
I have been a member of school leadership teams in a variety of roles for over 15 years, including ADSL, phase leader, maths and curriculum lead, data lead and assistant headteacher. Most recently, in 2024, I joined the Tilian Partnership as Headteacher of Orford Church of England Primary School before becoming the Interim Executive Headteacher here at Bawdsey as well. I have really enjoyed becoming part of the school community and I particularly love the strong sense of family and community that small rural schools create. I feel very fortunate to be working across both schools.

I'm so excited to get to know you and your family, and to welcome your child to my class. Before you start, here are a few things you might like to know about me. I grew up in Suffolk, then moved Leicester where I trained and worked as a Nurse. I worked in Intensive Care and as a Community Nurse, before having my own children, two boys, who are now 5 and 10. After a career change I completed teacher training in Suffolk, specialising in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Key Stage One and I'm thrilled to be joining Bawdsey CEVC Primary School.
My background in nursing and love of gardening has given me a passion for Science and I have achieved a Primary Science Enhancement Award with the Primary Science Teaching Trust. I am also a keen pianist and enjoy providing lots of opportunities for creativity and music in my classroom.
I’m passionate about the importance of children’s first steps in education and ensure every child in my class feels safe, valued, and inspired, as I believe these elements are crucial to enabling children to reach their full potential and develop a lifelong love of learning. Play is central to our approach in the EYFS, and your child will have access to a range of engaging and exciting opportunities for play, alongside playful teaching in a nurturing environment to support their development. As a Mum I know your child’s transition into education is an exciting, but sometimes daunting time. Building a strong partnership between school and home can really support your child’s transition. I welcome your involvement and look forward to hearing about your child’s wow moments!

I have been teaching for more than 20 years and have lived all over the world as my husband is in the Army. As well as teaching in England, I have been lucky enough to teach in Germany, Kenya and the USA! My husband is leaving the Army and we have relocated to Suffolk where my family live and we are really looking forward to it. I have teenage children; George and Jessica. We also have a dog, a labrador called Rosie. We like walking her and sailing. I am excited to start teaching at Bawdsey School, I was very impressed on my visits and everyone seems so friendly. I am moving from London so I am looking forward to being at a smaller school within a village community.

I have been a primary school teacher for 15 years and during this time have worked in schools across the UK and Germany. My husband is in the armed forces and currently based at Rock Barracks and I have taught at Ravenswood Primary School in Ipswich for the last 4 years of his posting. We have 2 children: Matthew and Jessica, who have both recently started at Hollesley Primary School, after securing our new forever home in the village of Hollesley itself. After spending the last 15 years of our married lives moving all over the country, we have finally decided to settle in Suffolk, as we have just fallen in love with the area. For us, after both growing up in Devon, it is like a home from home and allows us to do all the things we love to do including walking, running, cycling and camping. With a new house and new school for the children, I decided I would like a fresh start too and look forward to making that a reality by becoming a part of the team and community at Bawdsey CEVC Primary School.

Early Years Practitioner - NNEB Nursery Nurse
After qualifying in 1996 I worked as a full time Nanny for an amazing family working with children from birth to the age of nine years. Following on from there I worked as a Teaching Assistant with children from Nursery up to Year 2.
I took a break while I cared for my two girls and returned to work in 2017 working in a small Nursery. I joined Bawdsey School in 2018 where I feel very at home. I live in Sutton but have always had close contact with family living in Bawdsey.
