Headteacher's welcome

On behalf of our children, staff and governors, I am delighted to welcome you to Bawdsey Church of England Primary School.

We hope you find our website clear, informative and easy to navigate, and that it gives you a sense of who we are, what we value and the wonderful opportunities we offer our children and their families.

At Bawdsey, our dedicated and passionate team work tirelessly to ensure that every child is supported to achieve their aspirations and become the very best version of themselves. We recognise that every child is unique, and we strive to nurture their individual talents, interests and strengths within a caring and inclusive community.

We are incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by the beauty, history and character of the Suffolk coast and countryside. We make the most of our exceptional location through Forest School and Beach School experiences, visits to places of geographical and historical significance, gardening and cooking using produce grown by the children themselves. These experiences help our pupils develop a deep appreciation of their environment while building curiosity, independence and a lifelong love of learning.

Families choose Bawdsey because of our strong sense of community, the individual attention we are able to give each child and the wide range of opportunities available beyond the classroom. We are proud of the support we offer not only to our pupils, but to their families too. Everyone matters here. We want every child and every family to feel welcomed, valued and included, never like an outsider. We celebrate difference and diversity and are committed to providing equity and opportunity for all.

Although we are a smaller school, we have high aspirations for every one of our children. Our dedicated staff continually reflect on and improve our practice, always looking for ways to provide the very best experiences and opportunities for our pupils. Our school has consistently been recognised as a good school, with outstanding elements, through Ofsted and SIAMS, but we never stand still. We believe there is always more we can do to help our children flourish.

During their time at Bawdsey, we want our children to develop five key qualities that will help them become confident, compassionate and outward-looking global citizens. We want them to be courageous, resilient and caring, to have a curious spirit and a desire to explore, and to understand that they are equal and valued members of our wider world.

These qualities are at the heart of our vision and are woven through our curriculum and wider school offer. While we may be situated in a remote and beautiful corner of Suffolk, we are determined that our children's horizons should be anything but limited. We seek to broaden their cultural capital, deepen their understanding of the diversity of the United Kingdom and the wider world, and inspire them to look beyond their immediate surroundings with confidence and curiosity.

We warmly welcome visits to our ‘Hidden Gem on the Peninsula’. Come and meet our children, staff and families, experience our unique school community and discover what makes Bawdsey such a special place to learn.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Mr Matthew Head
