We are pleased to confirm that the governors have approved a new nursery class with effect from 3 September 2015. Bawdsey School will therefore be joining all other primary schools in the pyramid by offering nursery provision to pre-school children. At Bawdsey we shall be taking children from three, up until they reach statutory school age. This is a very exciting time for us and we feel confident that it will provide both social and educational benefits to our children, as well as supporting local families.
The nursery class will use the foundation stage end and the outside area of Class 1, and will be taught by Mrs Feakes, Ms Simpson and Mrs Butler. They will follow an early years foundation stage curriculum appropriate to their age, and develop learning through play.
Places will be available for up to 30 hours per week, partly funded by the Local Education Authority (LEA). From the term following a child's 3rd birthday, funding for up to 15 hours will be provided by the LEA. For example, if a child was born in October 2012, this funding would become available at the start of the following term i.e. January 2016. However, if the child was to start nursery immediately after their third birthday, Bawdsey School would be in a position to subsidise the period October 2012 to January 2016.
In addition, if parents / carers using our nursery class wish to exceed their funded 15 hours, we shall not request top up fees for these additional hours (up to a maximum total of 30 hours per week, including lunch.) These 30 hours will be available as 3hr sessions i.e. 5 x morning sessions 9am-12pm and 5 x afternoon sessions 12pm-3pm. Children attending the afternoon sessions can either bring a packed lunch, or a school dinner can be purchased.
Application forms to secure an LEA funded nursery place for up to 15 hours per week from the term following a child's 3rd birthday are available from the school office. Completed application forms should be handed back to the school, and these will be sent to Suffolk LEA for consideration. Nursery provision and LEA funding for up to 15 hours per week can be split between providers.
Another form will need to be completed if additional hours are required for either or both of the following:
These sessions are open to both existing and prospective parents and their children and are a good opportunity to meet current parents and get a feel for the school. If you'd like any further information please telephone or email the school office (01394 411365 ) firstname.lastname@example.org
